Research in the Department of Physics and Astronomy

Experimental and Theoretical Elementary Particle Physics, Eperimental and Theoretical Hadron Physics, Nuclear Physics, Accelerator Physics. In Condensed Matter/Photonics, it is split into Photonics/Applied Optics, Experimental and Theoretical Solid State Physics, Synchrotron Radiation, Mathematical physics and Other Topics. The activities in Astronomy/Astrophysics are also given as well as the Large research projects ("Sonderforschungsbereiche, DFG und BMBF Schwerpunktprogramme") in the department.
